You’ll liaise with your key supplier contacts to keep up with their latest products, attending important supplier visits and negotiating contracts that will drive business forward whilst developing strong working relationships and enhancing your networking skills. As a vital member of the dynamic Buying team you’ll keep the wheels of the department in motion by coordinating cross functional teams, helping to guarantee the seamless running of the overall supply chain and provide the best service for your prestigious customers.
Reporting to the Category Manager you will also work on various sourcing projects, researching the market and working with NPD teams to find out what makes consumers tick in order to extend and improve their diverse product ranges. You’ll update pricing and promotional information on internal systems, using data to conduct category reviews to identify opportunities for business growth. In addition you’ll work with internal teams to prepare portfolio reports and propose cost saving initiatives to help keep this prominent food importer at the top of their game.
We are looking for a bright, motivated and foodie graduate who has a Food or Business related degree, ideally with a purchasing or supply chain bias, and some previous experience in a similar fast paced buying role. This could be from a year’s placement or direct industry employment where you have gained a sound knowledge of the way the food world works coupled with a strong awareness of food ingredients. You’ll need to have first class communication skills as you’ll be working closely with internal teams and external suppliers to achieve the best service for major customers. Excellent planning, organisational and IT skills are also essential along with the confidence to build effective working relations.
